An 8-man tournament will decide a new United States Title challenger for reigning champ Logan Paul on SmackDown. Paul himself announced the tourney on this week's show after saying Rey Mysterio's surgery meant he couldn't offer the masked legend a rematch anyway.

The tournament will kick off on next week's episode, but there's a bit of a curve ball; one of the 8 stars included is a mystery man from NXT. Look out for WWE announcing exactly who that is midweek on the third string's next show.

Potential challengers (other than the NXT mystery) include Kevin Owens, Santos Escobar, Dragon Lee, Karrion Kross, Bobby Lashley, Grayson Waller and Austin Theory. The latter pairing are a tag-team, obviously, but they'll work as singles for the purpose of this tournament. That'll be interesting if WWE pops them in the brackets against one another.

KO would have to be considered the frontrunner here. He hasn't been doing much of anything other than working a sideshow feud vs. Waller and Theory since jumping to SmackDown, and he'd make a fine opponent heading through Royal Rumble for LP.
