WWE has announced a brand new date for the 2022 version of Extreme Rules.

Last year's pay-per-view took place on 26 September - that followed four consecutive years of June/July dates for the annual show. Now, in 2022, Extreme Rules will occur on 8 October. The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia has been chosen as the host venue for the event.

Two years ago, WWE rebranded the pay-per-view as "The Horror Show At Extreme Rules". That was headlined by a cinematic 'Swamp Fight' between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt. Then, in 2021, the company reverted to a more standard format for the card.

Some fans have already noted that the new October date might tie in with Halloween towards the end of the month. It's worth noting that last year's entry did have some supernatural/spooky shenanigans during the main event between Roman Reigns and Finn Bálor's 'Demon'.

Could WWE be up for another round of that in 2022? Don't rule it out.
