WWE announced a special New Year's Day 2022 pay-per-view on Friday's edition of SmackDown.

NBA All-Star player Trae Young was enlisted to announce the event; the Atlanta Hawks' Point Guard also revealed (via a pre-tape) that the show would, fittingly, happen in Atlanta. He then said, "I can't think of a better way to bring in 2022 than with the WWE Universe".

The show will happen on 1 January - that's a Saturday night, for the record. There's no word on what the show will be called quite yet, but WWE did hold events called New Year's Revolution between 2005-2007. None of those actually took place on New Year's Day though.

That makes this one totally unique.

Atlanta's State Farm Arena will host the pay-per-view, and Young added that he's excited to celebrate. That suggests he'll be there on the night, and he probably won't be the only celebrity wheeled out to whoop and holler from the stands.

Stay tuned for more info on this special New Year's Day show when it becomes available. For now, wrestling fans in Atlanta need to start circling 1 January on those calendars.
