WWE Applies For 'Shorty G' Trademark

Whole roster must dread being lumbered with that gimmick.

Shorty G?

After WWE had us all pulling “WTF” faces by announcing an upcoming WWE Network special called Smackville, now comes an update on two new trademarks that the company has put in for.

This past Wednesday, WWE opted to trademark the terms “Smackville” and “Shorty G” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Who or what is a Shorty G? We’ll be damned if we know.

As for Smackville, that July 27th event will air live from Nashville and see Kofi Kingston defend his WWE Championship against Dolph Ziggler and Somoa Joe in a triple threat contest. Elsewhere on the card, it’s been announced that new Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura will be defending the gold against former champ Finn Balor, whilst Elias will be performing a special musical number.

Let the speculation run wild (brother?) on the Shorty G trademark. For all we know, it could be a new nickname for Drave Maverick, it could be an all-little-person PPV, it could be a new ironic rapper gimmick for a returning Great Khali…

What’s also a little worrying about this is, if WWE is trademarking the god-awful Smackville name, that may well mean that this show could become an annual tradition. And just when you thought that Great Balls of Fire was the worst name Vince McMahon could think up!
