Redemption incoming for one of WWE's biggest character fumbles? It could be.

Sin Cara 2011 WWE Debut

File this under 'news stories you never thought you'd read in 2026'.

PWInsider initially reported that internal pitches have been made for a bold WWE revival of the Sin Cara character. The Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez then followed up with a report of his own on the thought, and it looks like this could actually happen after all.

Mexican star Mistico was the first man under the Cara mask back in 2011, but his spell with the company proved to be snakebitten. He departed WWE in 2014, which left spin off 'Sin Cara Negro' (Hunico) to portray the gimmick on his own - he'd go on to form The Lucha Dragons tag-team with Kalisto before departing himself in 2019.

Officially, Sin Cara's last televised match for the promotion was a 4-minute loss to Drew McIntyre on the 8 November 2019 edition of Raw. Few thought they'd ever see the blue and gold mask (or indeed any other colour variants) again after that.

Now, in 2026, Cara could be on the comeback trail, albeit with a fresh wrestler under the hood. It's true: According to both PWInsider and Alvarez on The Observer side, WWE's creative team would lobby to put someone brand new under the Sin Cara mask rather than attempting to rehire either former worker who portrayed him.

There are no clues just yet on exactly who that could be.

This seemingly implausible renaissance would have to be considered one of the least predictable in recent wrestling history. Someone on Raw, SmackDown or NXT could be set for a rather unforeseen experiment!
