The SmackDown Live! women's division has consistently been booked with more logic than the flagship counterpart since the reintroduced brand extension in 2016, and little has changed since respective stalwarts Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair switched shows in the 'Superstar Shake-up'.

Triggering an alliance between furious blue brand regulars Natalya and Carmella as well as neglected newcomer Tamina, Flair's arrival forged an alliance against her that quickly established itself as the most deadly threat to any fan favourite on the show.

The formation of the 'The Welcoming Committee' has been a novel use of the three heels, taking advantage of Natalya's assured performances between the ropes and on the microphone, whilst giving Carmella and Tamina just enough spotlight to shine without being burned by the glare.

Substantially stronger than their foes by most metrics, Flair, Becky Lynch and Champion Naomi are weakened by their insecure and uneasy union created merely to stand a chance of overcoming the Committee's strength in numbers.

Charlotte in particular was up front about her true intentions during Tuesday's contract signing, arrogantly noting that following the trio's inevitable victory at Backlash she'd be straight back in the hunt for her tag team partner's title.

The heroes are certain to come undone on Sunday, with their shaky foundations sure to crumble after a miscommunication most likely between Naomi and Flair. Charlotte has never explicitly endorsed her partners, and may make a quick return to the dark side following the loss.
