NXT TakeOver 36 will go down over SummerSlam 2021 weekend, WWE has confirmed.

The event was announced during last night's NXT show. During the broadcast, WWE declared a Sunday 22 August date for the supercard, meaning it will go down the day after SummerSlam.

SummerSlam will be held at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday 21 August, with WWE welcoming a crowd of over 40,000 fans for what is being reported as a WrestleMania-calibre show, headlined by Roman Reigns vs. John Cena. There is currently no word on where, exactly, TakeOver 36 will take place.

No further NXT TakeOver 36 details are available at this time, though the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer has previously reported that the next TakeOver show would likely take place at the Capitol Wrestling Center.

This new event flips the usual TakeOver/main roster pay-per-view format, which would traditionally see the NXT show take place on a Saturday night before the PPV on Sunday. WWE had largely shifted to holding TakeOvers on Sundays independent of main roster shows during the empty arena era, though the company's return to touring has seemingly brought an end to this.
