WWE Extreme Rules: 10 Matches It Could Set Up For The Future

10. Rob Van Dam vs. Bad News Barrett

We hadn€™t seen RVD since Night of Champions in September, and he made his return for the Intercontinental Contender€™s tournament. Presuming that he€™d like to be a part of an esteemed feud, (and why else would a part-timer come back?), continuing to chase the IC Title makes sense for RVD. He is still very popular with fans, who would embrace the idea of their returning hero chasing after this belt. I€™ve built another assumption into this pick, and that is Bad News Barrett winning the Intercontinental Championship from Big E at Extreme Rules. I feel confident in this assumption, as the company has not put as much support behind Big E as I expected them to, and Big E€™s wrestling is not quite ready for IC-calibre bouts (of any length, at least). Barrett seems to have finally set upon a gimmick that strikes a chord with fans, while employing the best of his wrestling skills when the bell rings. He€™s a great heel, and will sport that classy white belt with pride. Once Barrett has won the title, Rob Van Dam will be waiting in the wings for his shot. He can say that he didn€™t come back to fool around, he came to show everyone that he€™s worthy of such a highly-respected championship. He and Barrett could have an interesting feud, wrestling-wise, as they have very different styles that should complement each other. RVD won€™t win, but he€™ll be an excellent foil for the dastardly Bad News Barrett.
