WWE Extreme Rules 2016: 5 Near-Guarantees & 3 Possible Surprises
Will Extreme Rules be as straight forward as it appears?
WWE Extreme Rules is just around the corner, sporting a card that looks suspiciously similar to that of Payback just three weeks prior. Nevertheless, the event is poised to be an exciting one with gimmick matches aplenty for the one night WWE goes extreme.
A lot of the Attitute Era-esque violence may have been eradicated from WWE programming, but the 'anything goes' nature of Extreme Rules means that the shows is sure to offer up plenty of entertainment.
Although all five WWE championships will be defended at Extreme Rules, most fans are anticipating a relatively routine event. Some of the predicted results may be obvious, but at least the matches seem exciting enough to warrant a WWE Network subscription.
Not all hope for shocks is lost, however, as the card for Extreme Rules offers up a number of plausible opportunities for surprises.
Consider this your guide for what to expect come Sunday night.
These are five things that are just about guaranteed to happen and three possible surprises for WWE Extreme Rules 2016.
8. Near-Guarantee: The New Day Will Retain The WWE Tag Team Championship
Let's weigh up the competitors here. On one hand, you have The New Day, champions for almost nine months and more over with WWE fans than Ellen Degenerous is with bored housewives.
On the other hand, the Vaudevillains, a team inserted into this match on a technicality because the tag that is actually interesting was ruled out due to Enzo Amore's injury. Gee, I wonder who is going to win this contest?
No disrespect to the Vaudevillains, who were a staple on NXT and over with the smaller, older audience, but they don't have what it takes to survive on the main roster let alone be the faces of the division. They may be able to achieve short-term success as faces but in their current heel status, the Vaudevillains will only ever appeal to very select group. Pure wrestling ability isn't enough to get the job done on the main roster anymore.
Expect The New Day to retain their titles without doubt. The trio is still at the peak of their game and have the WWE Universe in the palm of their hands; no way are they about to take a major loss to a team with little backing.
