San Jose's SAP Center played host to Friday SmackDown this past week and it was announced on the episode that WWE would be returning to the venue for this year's Extreme Rules pay-per-view.

The event will go down on July 19 and tickets have already gone on pre-sale for the annual stipulation heavy event.

Extreme Rules has played host to its fair share of epic matches and moments over the years. From Jeff Hardy and CM Punk's car-crash ladder match for the World Heavyweight Championship in 2009 to Roman Reigns and AJ Styles barnburner in 2016 for the WWE title, the event has always harboured the potential to produce the odd classic.

Less said about last year's mixed tag winner-takes-all main event the better, though, ey?

Brock Lesnar probably remembers the night a little more fondly, you'd imagine.

By the time this year's event rolls around, we could very realistically have a first ever British WWE Champion on our hands and may even be entertaining a world where Ronda Rousey has returned to wreak havoc on the Women's division once more.

All we know at this stage is that the event will 100% be happening in San Jose's SAP Center.
