Edge is something of a divisive figure among certain fans, who couldn’t take his gangly frame seriously enough as a main event proposition—particularly since he wasn’t a technical wizard, either.
It is for this exact reason that his ‘Mania 24 headliner was such a cracking 24 minutes of blood-pumping drama. Preyed upon in the build by the Phenom, Edge wanted no part of this match—even when in the midst of it. He barely took it to the Undertaker, instead settling on an intelligent, slimy counter strategy to end the Streak—one that informed a distressing not-this-way blend of drama.
A superb reflection of a tremendous long-term storyline, they, sadly, don’t make ‘em like this anymore.
