WWE: Grand Jury To Review Jimmy Snuka Murder Case
More than 30 years have passed since the suspicious death of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snukas girlfriend, Nancy L. Argentino, but the mystery remains. Yesterday it was announced that the case will be reopened and reviewed by a Grand Jury to see whether the man known to millions as the Superfly was really to blame. No one can argue that Superfly Jimmy Snuka is one of the most revered and recognisable Superstars in the history of the WWE and it was his famous splash from the top of a steel cage onto the lifeless body of Magnificent Don Muraco inside Madison Square Garden that catapulted him into the history books and inspired a generation of future top stars including former WWE Champion Mick Foley. But despite being incredibly popular for much of his run in particular 1982-1994 Snuka never held a singles title in what was then the World Wrestling Federation. Many believe this was largely because of the events involving Snuka and his then girlfriend back in May 1983. According to reports there are major inconsistencies in Snukas testimony from the time and some feel Vince McMahon took it upon himself to concoct Snukas defence to avoid negative publicity for his company. In Snukas version of events he had pulled over in his car with Miss Argentino so that she could go to the bathroom in a nearby field. Because it was dark and wet out Snuka alleges Argentino slipped and fell hitting her head on the hard concrete of the road thus causing the brain injury that ultimately caused her death. However it was noted in her autopsy and seemingly ignored that Argentinos body was literally covered in cuts and bruises which could not be explained by this supposed fall. Argentinos sister Lorraine Salome has fought for a number of years for this case to be reopened claiming police did not do enough to investigate what she calls her sisters murder. Salome is dismissive of Snukas version of events and is quick to remind people that at one point Snuka had admitted to hospital staff that he had pushed his girlfriend during an argument. He would later say that this was not true and that staff had misunderstood his words. The now 70 year old Snuka still has a great relationship with WWE to this day and his daughter Tamina is a current member of the Divas roster. With the Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martins decision to reopen the case it is hard to imagine how this will affect the relationship or the career of the talented Ms Snuka. Although Jimmy still denies causing the death of Argentino it is now out of his hands and will be decided once and for all by a jury of 23 men and women in what could prove to be his toughest battle yet.
