6. Johnny Gargano

WWE's own best bout machine in 2018, Johnny Gargano can't yet boast the consistency of Kenny Omega himself, but he's done his best with several superlative displays on the developmental brand.

Outside of some choice television work, 'Johnny Wrestling' became the toast of the industry at the start of the year with the aforementioned history-making match with then-NXT Champion Andrade 'Cien' Almas. The five stars awarded by Dave Meltzer weren't to be discredited regardless of opinions on the Wrestling Observer, nor were they when they were dished out again following his TakeOver: New Orleans epic with former #DIY partner Tommaso Ciampa.

If the Almas match was Gargano's announcement that he belonged at the pinnacle of the industry, the Ciampa battle suggested he wanted to set an entirely new bar for quality in WWE. It was sports entertainment theatre to rival the best efforts of Bret Hart, Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, not least current main roster maestros AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan.

He's won fans' hearts, he's won unmatched plaudits - give the man a f*cking daft trophy for his efforts.
