WWE Hall Of Famer Returns At WrestleMania 36

A familiar voice was back behind the commentary desk...

JBL returned as Michael Cole's commentary partner for night one of WrestleMania 36.

The former World Champ, who will be inducted into WWE's Hall Of Fame this year, wasn't present for the Kickoff match between Cesaro and Drew Gulak, but soon joined his old pal Cole behind the desk.

This is a familiar spot for JBL. He began providing colour on SmackDown alongside Cole back in 2006, and most recently worked as an announcer just a few years ago.

Layfield and Cole have good chemistry together, so this was a shrewd call. It would've been ambitious of WWE to expect Cole to announce the entirety of WrestleMania solo (even though he did an admirable job on that aforementioned Cesaro vs. Gulak pre-show bout), and he's benefited from having different partners on the Performance Center TV broadcasts in recent weeks.

It's unclear at this time if JBL will return for 'Mania's second night tomorrow, or if WWE have someone else lined up to keep Cole company.

There's also no news on whether or not this is a one-off gig for Layfield or if he'll do more work over the coming weeks and months.
