WWE Has Released 71 Wrestlers In 2021
WWE's latest round of talent cuts brings its 2021 total up to an astronomical number...
Another round of WWE roster cuts was confirmed yesterday, with big names like Nia Jax, Eva Marie, Keith Lee, Karrion Kross, and Ember Moon heading a list of 18 wrestlers let go for various reasons.
This takes the total number of wrestlers released in this year of mass cuts up to a staggering 71.
Reddit user u/OneLasagnaBoi has compiled a full list, as has Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture. The bulk of these cuts have come in batches, with WWE regularly releasing people in groups.
Many of these have been attributed to "budget cuts", per an email sent out by WWE's head of talent relations, John Laurinaitis, following yesterday's releases. This has been the case for many of the wrestlers the company has shed in 2021, though it is believed that several performers' unvaccinated status may have contributed to their departures.
This latest round of WWE cuts came on the same day that the promotion's Q3 2021 earnings reports were released. As well as announcing a year-over-year increase in revenue for the quarter, WWE also adjusted its profit projections for the year, moving from $270 million - $305 million to $305 million to $315 million.
