WWE: Jake Roberts To Be Inducted Into WWE Hall Of Fame 2014
Jake 'The Snake' Roberts is to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this April 5th. The announcement was made official during Monday Night Raw, with a video package illustrating some of the notable Roberts moments from the 80's and 90's. The former star of WWF and WCW television will be the second inductee, behind former WWF Champion The Ultimate Warrior. The ceremony will take place the night before Wrestlemania 30 in New Orleans. Here's the video package from RAW last night which announced his induction; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sID450mKXRA Roberts has long been tipped as a potential WWE Hall of Famer, the memorable character being a staple in WWF programming for key periods in the 80s and 90s. Despite a combined run of only 7 years with Vince McMahon, few fans will ever forget the image of Jake laying out his DDT on opponents (or for that matter laying out his snake Damien). Roberts was also a veteran of territorial wrestling and held a reputation as a great in-ring worker. Infamously, Jake has suffered years of disrepute due to his battles with alcoholism and drug addiction. His induction will come with some controversy to smaller promoters, some of whom went out of business due to the cost of Jake no-shows and turning up in no condition to perform. Refunds have had to be issued and shows cancelled due to Roberts, and some in the business will never forgive him for the damage he did in those dark days. These issues are what have stopped the WWE from doing business with Roberts up until now. Thankfully, The Snake appears to be on the road to recovery, helped greatly by his friend Diamond Dallas Page. He returned to the WWE at old school Raw, and with his Hall of Fame induction now on the horizon, we may see yet more of Jake The Snake Roberts on WWE television.
