Following last week’s impressive showing during SmackDown’s Gauntlet Match, it appears that, yes, Shinsuke Nakamura is being geared up for a feud with WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

As per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the current plan is for Nakamura to be built up to work a full program with the blue brand’s resident Head of the Table.

With this tonight’s episode of SmackDown due to start imminently, as of this writing’s it’s Adam Pearce who is due to face off against Reigns at this month’s Royal Rumble PPV. Many have questioned whether or not WWE will pull Pearce from this bout, and one viable replacement for “Scrap Daddy” Pearce would certainly be the King of Strong Style.

Previously, the belief was that Roman would tangle once more with Kevin Owens at this year’s Royal Rumble event. After last week’s strong showing from Shinsuke, Nakamura now seems to have jumped ahead of KO when it comes to battling the Big Dog.

Daniel Bryan is another name under consideration as an opponent for Roman Reigns, but that rivalry may well be saved for WrestleMania 37 – with D-Bry an early favourite to win this year’s men’s Royal Rumble.
