Usually, the two pack of WWE Main Event and NXT is the strongest wrestling television of the week from Vince and company. However, sometimes there are building weeks with a ton of shenanigans. And this week was apparently one of those times. Not to say there wasn't great action, just not up to standards of the usual programming. Let's begin by breaking down this week's edition of the Main Event. The Main Event comes to us from the not so distant past of last week. We are welcomed by the broadcast team of JBL and Josh Matthews as R-Truth does his full rap as he is set to battle the Rebel Son himself Wade Barrett. (Can you tell WWE is on an international tour this week and didn't really care what they put out on television this week?) The match itself felt very awkward. I just didn't see the two styles meshing very well. And what made it worse was the back-and-forth between Matthews and Layfield bringing up things such as Beyoncé and Jay-Z, what the name of R-Truth wife would be among other things. I'm not saying treat it like the most important match in the world, but if it's your featured contest you might want to treat it as such. Regardless, of who is involved. I'm not saying that Matthews and JBL are terrible. They're not. When they are focused there a great team, but when they trade jabs back-and-forth it gets kind of annoying. The fact that Josh Matthews brought up JBL was not on Raw because he was climbing a mountain in Switzerland and asked if he got to the top was dumb. They keep doing stuff to just pop themselves and I think it is disrespectful to the guys. Back to the match, Wade Barrett hits a Bull Hammer on Truth after Killings hits Wade with his best shots and gets the win. Barrett breaks his recent losing streak. But will it even matter in the long run? We see a recap Monday's incident with CM Punk. Then we get the Samoan war dance of the Usos versus the Million-Dollar Moves of the Primetime Players. It's interesting , the focus was once again put on Titus O'Neill as more of a singles force. Darren Young had his moment as well with a neckbreaker the apron on Jimmy but O'Neill definitely seem like the breakout star of the team. Unfortunately for the PTP though the sons of Samoa get the win with the Rocket Launcher. I like the fact that Jey did his father Rikishi clothesline inside out spot. The night ends with a recap of the Daniel Bryan- John Cena saga from Monday. And Mark Henry obliterates a bearded Drew McIntyre deep in the heart of Texas.
Moving on to NXT this week, we start the show with quite the song and dance. The Certified Gees of Colin "Bada Boom" Cassidy and Enzo Amore (channeling the FBI from the original ECW) coming out saying that they have run roughshod over the roster showing that they're not SAWFT and that tonight the ring will be their dance floor. Big Colin Cassidy begins to saying , that old standard Volaire. Then out of nowhere Tons of Funk make their way to the ring to the shock of The Certified Gees. They try to make their exit when their nemesis Mason Ryan forced them into the ring. The wannabe Italians are destroyed by Tons of Funk. Then Ryan does the most awkward dancing since Rob Terry. Speaking of dancing, we go backstage with Dusty Rhodes along with NXT Women's Champion Paige and Emma discussing last week's match. Summer Rae gets involved saying that she should be the champion as the first lady of NXT. Emma then insults her dancing with Fandango which causes an argument and a dance challenge next week. The winner gets a title shot. (Another crazy segment, with the NXT Commissioner doing the cabbage patch saying the idea of a dance contest was dumb but did it anyway. Doesn't look like we're going to get a hard-nosed wrestling division that we wanted. Shenanigans.) We head into some NXT divas action as The Nature Girl Charlotte battles Sasha Banks. I thought the two women worked well together that said, it wasn't the greatest women's match. I did like the portion where they got into a bit of a catfight and trash talk one another. Although the slaps from Sasha looked rather week. Charlotte gets the victory with the I'm calling the Queen City Cutter. Not a bad match, Charlotte is definitely getting better but it's going to take some time before she really can find herself as a performer. (Question, though why would a superstar name a move that they never win with i.e. Charlotte's rollup combination a.k.a. Charlotte's Web and the move that she's been using as her finisher does not) Backstage, René Young is trying to get a word with the rather shallow Tyler breeze about his victory last week. However, Tyler is more consumed with what is on his phone his face then what's going on around him. In the background, CJ Parker makes a reappearance mocking the situation while René and Tyler are none the wiser. Tyler says the interview's over and René knows what to do. She then says, Tyler Breeze has left the building in the vein of early Shawn Michaels. We then go back to the action as the Wyatt family complete with their WWE entrance bid farewell to NXT as they destroy the team of Mickey Keegan and Aiden English. After Luke Harper and Eric Rowan have their fun. Bray Wyatt gets in the ring and hits the Sister Abigail on Aiden English much to the delight of the crowd at Full Sail University. The crowd chanted one more time but the Eater of Worlds calmed the crowd saying that their time in NXT is over. He says that people dream and never leave the couch. He dreams of changing the landscape and now hell has frozen over and pigs have learned to fly. He asked the audience are they tired of being lied to. Then asks are they tired of being alone, join him and spit in the face of the liar called fear. But change is coming. So keep and eye in the sky and follow the buzzards. He even added the former time is on my side line from the FCW days. Very good segment. Backstage, we see the NXT tag champions discussing the upcoming singles match between Corey Graves and Scott Dawson. Adrian Neville says he's going to be at ringside to watch out for the Wyatt family. Graves does not seem to be worried at all. Graves adds if the Wyatt family wants a real war they will show them a real war. If they want hell, they will show them hell. Neville said they are the tag team champions and they back down from no one. Coming back from commercial, Sylvester LeFort introduces his charge Scott Dawson as he gets ready to battle Corey Graves. This goes into the first solid contest of the night as Dawson and Graves start a really good back-and-forth. It just ends too abruptly as Corey locks in his submission the Unlucky Thirteen for the victory. (Interestingly enough, during the match commentator Tony Dawson and brings up the fact that Dawson is the sole breadwinner in his family and has been for sometime. I don't know if this was intentional by Dawson, but it definitely sounds like they're looking for a Babyface turn for Scott sometime soon. I would still love to know where the hell his former partner Garrett Dylan went to? He seems to have disappeared from the WWE universe. Maybe they're going to feud the two against each other.) After the match, the Shield's music and the Hounds of Justice comes out chastising the NXT tag team champions saying the Shield is back in town. Rollins says it's nice that Corey has a tag team title just like he and Reigns. Ambrose says his two cent that Neville slid into Kassius Ohno spot taking a title. And that's a crime punishable by the laws of the Shield. Ambrose challenges Neville to a match so he can pay for his crimes. Neville says why not put the US title on the line. Dean agrees with Adrian adding that he and Corey will dismantle the Shield one by one, and you can believe in that. And in the main Event, we see a solid tag team match as Bo Dallas and Sami Zayn lose to the pairing of Antonio Cesaro and Leo Kruger. Nice work , but I guess I was expecting a tad more from this. Everyone really worked hard in this match, but it just didn't not click all the way for me. The end of the match saw Bo Dallas was left all alone with Leo Kruger after Cesaro and Zayn battle to the back. Leo Kruger hits the lariat known as The Slice for the win. Much to the delight of the NXT crowd. Kruger celebrates as the show goes off the air. (Those "No More Bo" chants are getting more and more loud each week. There was also a smattering of "We the People" chants for Antonio.) All in all, other than a few things on NXT this week is pretty uneventful when comes to the Wednesday offerings from the WWE in the US. I would definitely check out the Wyatt family goodbye and the main event. Next week should be an interesting episode of NXT. Until then, I hope you have a good week.
