The opening match on any pay-per-view style show is vital, those curtain jerking performances can go a long way to setting the tone for the rest of the card. No Way Jose vs. Austin Aries was an interesting choice, because there would have been something to say the NXT Tag-Team Title bout going out first.

WWE's minor risk paid off though, No Way Jose's entrance was energetic and had the crowd on their feet early. Admittedly, the live audience did seem a bit more into Austin Aries once the veteran made his entrance, but they weren't necessarily against Jose either. There was a frenzied vibe in the air from the off.

No Way Jose was eventually booked to lose to Aries, although he was able to shine during the match. Going just over the 10-minute mark, the pair produced a great launching pad for Takeover Brooklyn II.

The story was that the experience of Aries proved key, but that No Way Jose is a star of the future. That's some writing to get on board with.
