WWE Releases Alberto Del Rio

Thus ends a disappointing year for the Mexican Aristocrat.

Absolutely no surprises here, as WWE has announced on its website today that Alberto Del Rio has been granted his release.

Del Rio's exit has long been rumoured and was almost a foregone conclusion at this point and surely closes the book on Alberto Del Rio's World Wrestling Entertainment career. Del Rio returned to the company at Hell in a Cell last October, defeating John Cena clean as a whistle on his first night back and capturing the United States Champioship in the process.

It all went downhill from there, unfortunately followed by a whole lot of nothing, as Del Rio entered into a disappointing feud with Kalisto before moping around with the rest of The League of Nations. Alberto went his own way again following the demise of that faction, and despite some positive words in press conferences he has slowly faded back into obscurity once again.

What now for Del Rio? Will he return to AAA and Lucha Underground, the two major lucha companies he left in order to return to WWE? How about a move to TNA, a company in a much better position today than it has been in years? Time will tell for El Patron.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man.
