Tom Phillips has been released by WWE, report Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp and Robert DeFelice.

The write-up notes that while WWE is yet to officially announce Phillips' departure, he is gone from the company, joining the long string of staff to be let go this week.

Phillips had been with WWE since 2012. He was introduced as a backstage Raw interviewer on the WWE App that year, before transitioning into an announcing career that saw him work every notable WWE brand, from Raw and SmackDown to Main Event and Superstars, up to his departure.

Removed from WrestleMania 37 due to COVID-19 protocols, Phillips was pulled from the Raw announce team on 12 April, with former ESPN broadcaster Adnan Virk taking his place. Virk departed WWE in what was described as a "mutually agreed parting of ways" earlier this week and will be replaced by former Bellator and UFC commentator Jimmy Smith from next Monday.

There's currently no word on the specific circumstances of Phillips' departure as of yet. His former broadcasting partner on Raw, Samoa Joe, was cut by WWE as part of its April releases.
