WWE has released 205 Live wrestlers Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari, reports PWInsider’s Mike Johnson.

Both performers were brought into the company for the Cruiserweight Classic tournament in 2016. Nese made it to the second round, where he was eliminated by Brian Kendrick, while Daivari was knocked out by Ho Ho Lun at the opening stage. Each was retained as a full-time member of the reborn cruiserweight division in the aftermath regardless.

Nese tasted more individual success than Daivari on 205 Live. His WWE career peaked on the WrestleMania 35 Kickoff Show, where he defeated Buddy Murphy to become Cruiserweight Champion for the first time. A 77-day run with the strap followed, with Daivari among Tony’s successful defences, before Drew Gulak claimed the title in a Triple Threat also featuring Akira Tozawa at Stomping Grounds 2019.

Daivari and Nese formed an on-air alliance on 205 Live towards the end of 2020, with their most recent match going down on the show’s 8 June 2021 episode. Now, both are gone from the promotion entirely.

No reason for this latest batch of cuts had been disclosed at the time of writing.
