With a lineage stretching all the way back to 1975, the United States Title is one of the most storied in American wrestling history, with WWE inheriting it from WCW in 2001 but not making it a full-time concern until 2003. The strap has since been a virtual ever-present on the midcard though it hasn't always been booked with the respect it perhaps deserves, drifting in and out of prominence over the past decade plus.

Current champion Apollo Crews has held the belt since 25 May, defeating Andrade on an episode of Raw. He is expected to defend against Bobby Lashley or MVP at the upcoming The Horror Show at Extreme Rules pay-per-view on 19 July though this is yet to be confirmed.

Also on tap for tonight's episode of Raw is a champion vs. champion clash pitting SmackDown's Bayley against Asuka, following on from last week's NXT bout between Sasha Banks and Io Shirai. Updates from Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler, Lashley, MVP, and more are also expected.
