WWE Royal Rumble 2017: 10 Possible Surprise Entrants
1. Shawn Michaels
The Rumble is taking place in San Antonio. Shawn Michaels is from San Antonio. Does this need any further explanation?
The Heartbreak Kid is one of the most beloved wrestlers of all time, having classic matches with almost everybody possible (although my own personal dream match, CM Punk vs HBK, looks less likely by the day). He is also a legend of the Royal Rumble, having been the first man to win from the number one entry position, and putting in many classic performances, particularly when he and Undertaker were the last two remaining in 2007, and the first two entrants in 2008.
Although now retired, HBK proved at last year’s WrestleMania he is still in ring shape, and would undoubtedly generate the biggest possible reaction in his hometown.
Will it happen? Although Shawn has always maintained that he would be willing to wrestle again if Vince McMahon really needed him to, he is by all accounts very happily retired, with no burning desire to ever step between the ropes again. The fan-made image showing him face off with AJ Styles at the Rumble sent fans into a frenzy, particularly when it was retweeted by the WWE Champion, but Michaels has stated that nobody in WWE has contacted him about any potential match. There is always some hope, but this one is a very long shot.
