WWE Rumour: Goldberg To Beat Bray Wyatt's 'Fiend'?
Short-term gain might outweigh long-term planning.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer claimed there's a chance WWE will put the Universal Title on Goldberg at Super ShowDown.
The WCW legend is scheduled for a match with Bray Wyatt's 'Fiend' character in Saudi Arabia on 27 February, and Meltzer says Goldberg's marquee value at WrestleMania 36 could play into the decision. Internally, WWE are pondering interest in a Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns match in Tampa.
If this happens, it might just break the internet.
Wyatt's masked gimmick has been pushed hard since last summer. He's beaten Finn Bálor, Seth Rollins, The Miz and Daniel Bryan, and he's expected to add Goldberg to his list of scalps. WON aren't so sure, although Meltzer did also say that he expects common sense to prevail and Bray to win in Saudi.
It'd totally ruin the 'Fiend' if a part-timer rocked up and ended his dominion over the Universal Title picture on SmackDown. Three years ago, WWE booked short-term gain ahead of a hot program by having Goldberg topple Kevin Owens as Universal Champ heading into 'Mania 33.
Could they play that same trick again?
