WWE’s Matt Riddle Just Lost His Forename
(Matt) Riddle join's WWE's one-word name club.
Matt Riddle has become the latest WWE wrestler to lose his forename, with WWE.com’s official roster listing now referring to him as “Riddle” and “Riddle” alone.
PWInsider reports that WWE made the decision to change Riddle’s ring name on Thursday, so they must have been quick to update dot com.
The former UFC fighter tweeted the following about it:-
There’s currently no word on why, exactly, WWE opted to make the change, though Riddle is the latest in a long line of wrestlers to lose part of their name, with the likes of Rusev, Cesaro, and Andrade suffering similar fates over the past few years.
Per Fightful Select, Vince McMahon was behind the change, which will be part of a "more serious character presentation" going forward.
The 34-year-old is currently making a home on Raw, having been drafted to the red brand from SmackDown as part of the 2020 WWE Draft. He is already on a two-match losing streak on Monday nights after recent defeats to Sheamus and AJ Styles.
Riddle’s #SpeakingOut accuser, Samantha Tavel, recently sued the wrestler for $10 million as part of a combined $40 million lawsuit against him, WWE, EVOLVE, and Gabe Sapolsky. Riddle is alleged to have committed several acts of sexual abuse against Tavel between 2017 and 2020.
