WWE SmackDown: 10 Things You Might Have Missed (Dec 13)

9. The Miz Putting Himself Over

During his Miz TV segment on this week's SmackDown, The Miz said that he had taken the WWE Intercontinental Title from "obscurity" and turned it into something more prestigious. It's genuinely difficult to argue that Miz has been good for the secondary strap this year. When he's held it, the Intercontinental Title has meant more.

Before welcoming AJ Styles onto his talk show, The Miz hyped things up by saying people were about to see two of the most powerful champions in WWE today together in the one place. That was subtle self-promotion, Miz was putting himself on the same level as the reigning WWE Champion with his words.

There's nothing wrong with that kind of self-aggrandising behaviour. If anyone gets how to properly put themselves over, it's The Miz. Later in the same segment, he also stood side-by-side with Styles, showing off both belts. Again, this was some sneaky promotion from the Intercontinental Champ, putting that belt in the same conversation as SmackDown's biggest.
