According to some posts that surfaced on social media, several WWE talents made a surprise trip to Afghanistan on Thursday to visit with United States military personnel during the holiday season. The Tribute To The Troops yearly tradition was started in 2003 following the U.S. invasion of Iraq earlier that year. The concept was reportedly an idea pitched to Vince McMahon by John Bradshaw Layfield. It soon became one of WWE's most anticipated yearly events. Early on, the show actually took place at American military bases in the Middle East. The exact locations were always undisclosed until the event had concluded. These Middle East held events featured live matches for American troops that were stationed on-site and aired on television several days later. In 2010, the show was moved to American soil and has remained that way ever since. The 2015 edition of Tribute To The Troops airs Wednesday, December 23rd at 8:00 p.m. EST on the USA Network. This year's show was taped on December 8th in Jacksonville, FL.
