WWE SumerSlam 2016 Updated Card - Woman's Title Match Added
WWE announces Sasha Banks vs Charlotte rematch on Twitter.
Monday evening on the first post-split edition of Raw, Sasha Banks shocked the world by defeating Charlotte for the WWE Women's Championship in a classic bout.
On Saturday, WWE's official Twitter account shared the news that the two women would meet once again at SummerSlam, with the title on the line.
Banks and Charlotte have been longtime rivals, dating back to their time in NXT. As two of the "Four Horsewomen," they battled frequently, with Banks eventually capturing the NXT Women's Championship from Charlotte in February of 2015. Banks was still the champion in July, when she and Charlotte were called up to WWE's main roster. Once there, the women joined different stables, keeping their rivalry alive.
Heading into 2016, Charlotte was Women's Champion, but Banks was pursuing the title. Along with Becky Lynch, they clashed in an acclaimed triple threat match at WrestleMania, but Charlotte came out victorious when she made Becky submit to the Figure 8. Afterwards, Banks was kept off of TV for a couple of months, returning in June to once again make a run at Charlotte and the belt.
SummerSlam airs live on the WWE Network on August 21 at 7:00 PM ET. Other announced matches include Brock Lesnar versus Randy Orton, WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose defending against Dolph Ziggler, and Seth Rollins versus Finn Balor for the WWE Universal Championship.
