WWE was supposed to confirm GUNTHER's WrestleMania 39 challenger on the latest edition of SmackDown, but that didn't happen. Instead, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus performed a double pin during the Fatal-Five-Way bout designed to crown a new number one contender for the Intercontinental Title.

Then, the ex-tag partners got mad at one another before company chiefs revealed they'd wrestle one-on-one next week to thrash things out. There's still a chance WWE will choose to go with a three-way scenario come 'Mania - that's the most likely outcome, because it'd be a bit crap for Sheamus to miss out on a bumper pay-per-view payday in Hollywood.

Besides, few fans would grumble about GUNTHER defending against the former "Banger Bros'.

LA Knight, Karrion Kross and Xavier Woods (who was replacing New Day stablemate Kofi Kingston) were the other names involved in the match. None of those dudes seemed like realistic winners going in, but WWE's double pin booking keeps the story rolling on into next week.

Creative booked GUNTHER to be p*ssed off about the thought of facing two workers at 'Mania in a backstage promo, which dropped a heavy hint about where this is going.
