WWE ThunderDome Staying At Tropicana Field For Longer Than Planned?
Complications with the MLB season means WWE's Tropicana Field residency could be extended.
WWE's Thunderdome residency at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida may be extended beyond current plans to vacate the basketball stadium in March.
Dave Meltzer writes in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that as things currently stand, WWE must leave the baseball arena in the middle of that month as the Tampa Bay Lightning need it back for the MLB season. While it is currently believed that the season will start on time, this is far from guaranteed with the pandemic still so fluid, and a delay could lead to WWE sticking around St. Pete a little longer.
As far as moving back towards attended shows, WWE's Nick Khan said during yesterday's earnings call that it would be Q3 2021 at the earliest before the promotion looks at doing so. WrestleMania 37 will be the only exception to this rule. The promotion is looking to bring a reported 25,000-30,000 people into Tampa's Raymond James Stadium on 10 and 11 April, with WWE looking at implementing a more traditional road schedule within six weeks of getting the all-clear to do so.
Again, the ongoing global health crisis' volatility makes it hard to forecast anything more specific at the moment.
