WWE To Raid Lucha Underground?
Is this man on his way to WWE?
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE isinterested in booking several members of the Lucha Underground roster for the Global Cruiserweight Series.
Lucha Underground's third (and final, unless a renewal is announced) season finishes shooting just before the GCS tapes in late June, and WWE may take advantage of the scheduling to make their move.
The reports state that, in an effort to give the GCS more international appeal, WWE wants to sign at least five Mexican wrestlers for the tournament. Pentagon, Jr. - who has already been rumored to be on WWE's radar - is likely to be one of the main candidates. Other potential targets could include Fenix, King Cuerno (who competes for LU's sister promotion, Triple A, as El Hijo del Fantasma) and Dragon Azteca, Jr. (who wrestles in Mexican and U.S. independent promotions as Rey Horus).
Any and all attempts by WWE to sign Lucha Underground talents could potentially be delayed by the structure of the LU contracts. While season three will be done taping in June, it won't finish airing until 2017. The contracts state that no LU talents can appear on TV for a rival promotion until all of their appearances have been aired, and while that clause is unlikely to hold up if challenged in court, it could make WWE's negotiation efforts more difficult.
