WWE US Champion Alberto Del Rio Attacked By Fan

Del Rio was attacked while working a match in Puerto Rico.

This past weekend, current WWE US Champion Alberto Del Rio was attacked by a fan at a show in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. The Mexican superstar was working a show for World Wrestling Council at the time, fulfilling a contractual obligation agreed upon before his return to WWE in October. As shown in the below video, Del Rio was attacked in the middle of a match with Ray Gonzalez, seconds after sliding to the outside of the ring. The fan caught Alberto unawares, attacking while the wrestler's back was turned. Del Rio turned around to defend himself, before the attack was quickly broken up by ringside personnel. Gonzalez escorted Alberto away from the incident, improvising a headlock and hastily walking his opponent around to the other side of the ring. The fan was reportedly ejected from the show, and the match continued to a conclusion without any further incident. It finished via DQ, as El Hijo de Dos Cara (Del Rio's real-life brother) interfered on behalf of the US Champion, saving him from Gonzalez's figure-four leglock. The motivation behind the attack remains unknown, although WWC personnel must be commended for diffusing the situation so quickly, thereby preventing injuries to anyone involved. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXXspaulrHk
