WWE Wrestler Recalls "Really Weird" Title Win

Why was this title win so strange? A top WWE star explains what he means!

Big E has described his Intercontinental Title win on the Christmas Day 2020 episode of SmackDown as "really weird". There on that show (taped several days beforehand on 22 December), E toppled then-conspiracy theorist Sami Zayn to win the secondary prize.

So, why was the title celebration so "weird" for E? He told The Sarah O'Connell Show that it was strange because WWE shows were being held in front of TV screens at the time. Oh yes, this was mid-ThunderDome era, which meant zero fans were actually there live in attendance for the New Day man's big win.

He was thrilled to win IC gold for the second time, of course, but couldn't shake the feeling that things felt a bit hollow. The world was gripped with concerns about COVID at the time, and the pandemic was on everybody's lips.

E pinned Sami, then hoisted the belt high above his head to celebrate as usual. As he looked out over the empty ThunderDome, Big E saw hundreds/thousands of webcam faces staring back at him. It was a trippy feeling, and not one he was prepared for.
