Kofi Kingston revealed on Friday's episode of SmackDown that he will miss up to six weeks of action due to injury.

Then, the former WWE Champion told his New Day colleague Big E that this was his time to shine as a singles star. That, along with the mysterious nature of the "injury" (one Kofi said he suffered during New Day's SmackDown Tag-Team Title loss to Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura at Extreme Rules) would suggest that this is part of a storyline.

It could be WWE's way of giving E a platform to shine on without Kofi or Xavier Woods - they might be looking to see how he does flying solo.

Cesaro and Nakamura cut a promo later on the show claiming they hurt Kingston by blasting him through a table and taking New Day's cherished titles. Real injury or not, it was a good idea to put the heat back on the heels and credit them for taking Kofi out.

Big E hasn't had a sustained singles run since 2014. That summer, he formed New Day and hasn't looked back.

Kofi says his time is now. Bring it on.
