WWE's Mickie James Confirms She Needs ACL Surgery

Bad news for the six-time Women's Champion.

Mickie James was struck down by injury while working a WWE live event over the weekend, and it looks like the situation is worse than originally feared.

The six-time Women's/Divas Champion was wrestling Carmella in Waco, Texas. It was her first time in the ring since WrestleMania 35's women's battle royal and, amazingly, her first singles match since January, though it sounds like the 39-year-old was able to complete the bout.

James hit Instagram Live to talk about the situation yesterday, stating that she'd already undergone an MRI - after which it was determined that she'd hurt her ACL. "I don’t know how long I’m gonna be out. I don’t know when I’m gonna have to get surgery, but it’s gonna be a while," she said (h/t: Pro Wrestling Sheet).

ACL problems usually mean long recovery times, so James is now staring down the barrel of a considerable in-ring absence. Her 2019 usage rate has been poor. Mickie has only made television on a handful of occasions, and not once since joining SmackDown as part of April's Superstar Shake-Up. A shame, as the veteran still has plenty to offer, and we wish her a speedy recovery.
