Young Rock Episode 1 Review: 4 Ups & 3 Downs

3. The 80s & 90s Style

Young Rock
NBC

The hair, the cars, the moustaches-- Young Rock presents a feast of brightly coloured tracksuits and sneakers to transport us to the 80s and 90s.

The 80s have been portrayed so much in films and TV that you don't even have to have lived through the decade to get nostalgic feelings for it. We all live in fear and awe of the perm, high waisted jeans, and geometrical shapes slapped on to neon-coloured patterns. I'm pleased to report that all of these, and more, are shamelessly present in Young Rock.

It's not the deepest dive into 80s and 90s culture and style, but it works on the surface level to keep the audience amused and on track about just how far in the past the show is set. It might not scratch the nostalgic itch for every viewer, but for those that do enjoy a good retro throwback, the show delivers.

No cameo from The Rock's infamous fanny pack just yet, I'm assuming they're waiting on breaking that bad boy out for the finale.
