Expecto Hype! We're Getting A Harry Potter Game Like Pokemon Go

Prepare to step outside into the sun for three weeks again.

Wizards UNITE!

After what's felt like years of speculation, and false rumours, Niantic have officially announced that they're releasing a Harry Potter game in the style of Pokemon Go. The game will be called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, rather than Harry Potter Go, for some reason, but that's by the by.

What matters is that the studio have basically just made sure they have the biggest mobile game in history when it comes out, because there's no way it won't eclipse the stunning figures Pokemon Go managed when it came out. Hopefully, the longevity will be better this time and the developers will look after it better.

Niantic announcement reveals some details on what we can expect from the game:

With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players that have been dreaming of becoming real life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies.

Any excuse to get out of the house in full Slytherin robes is good by me. Thusfar, there's no announcement on a release date, but we can probably expect it to be 2018.

The story hints there suggest we won't get to see Voldemort or his Death Eaters, but maybe that's misdirection (or the plan is to have different roll outs?). And it's not entirely unsurprising that they'd look for a means to tie it into Fantastic Beasts, whose sequel hits cinemas at the end of 2018.

All very, very exciting.
