'Tis the season to get into comics.

Even the most ardent of comic fans can likely see why people shy away from getting into comics. Often, the plotlines require you to have a knowledge of comic history that is borderline encyclopedic, and involve you caring deeply for characters that are about as loveable as the guy who tries to offer you mysterious substances outside your local corner store.

But this isn't to say that people who think badly of some comics should never read any - or that lapsed fans are doomed to never be able to get into a series ever again. Because the issues that many comics suffer from aren't a widespread contagion, but rather a plague that the hardiest and best of comics manage to overcome through the strength of good writing, a unique concept, or just some good old fashioned brutal violence.

Whatever the means, there are plenty of comics that are more than capable of kickstarting someone's love of comics - you just have to find the right one for you. And lucky for us, it looks like there's going to be no shortage of these comics anytime soon.

10. Injustice

As anyone who's played the game adaptation can tell you, Injustice is a franchise that's seriously addictive. As a story that takes place in a different universe to the main comics, it's essentially given free reign to mess up as much of the universe as it wants to, and kill as many of the characters in it as it can - and by god, does it make well and truly good on it.

For those who struggle with the 'plot armor' that major characters get in comics, this is well and truly the comic for you, as nobody is safe from the proverbial chopping block, leading to countless famous faces getting brutally destroyed in a delightfully inventive assortment of ways, all for our viewing entertainment.

If you like the non-stop violence and gore that series like The Boys have shown on prime-time tv, then Injustice is the comic to read - so long as you stay aware that it's very different to the main DC universe.
