10 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy DC Comics
7. They're Actually Called Detective Comics Comics
DC have a lot of reasons to be proud of Detective Comics, at the time their flagship title, not least of which that it introduced Batman to the world with issue #27. In fact they were so proud of it they took the title for their name, which evolved from Detective Comics Inc. to the DC Comics that we know and love today.
Here's the thing: DC stands for Detective Comics. Usually, when talking about the publisher it's rendered as DC Comics. Which mean that, technically, they're called Detective Comics Comics. Which is hilarious, and a little goofy, and the sort of thing you can tell friends in the pub to look like a pop cultural savant.
You could argue that the real "meaning" of the DC in DC Comics has been lost over the years, and that it's not the only example of a recursive acronym - look at ATM machines, Automatic Teller Machine Machines - but c'mon. Just accept that it's silly. Embrace it. Comics!
