10 Insane Alternate Versions Of The Avengers You Won't Believe Exist

Avengers Assemble! ...in various ways.

Avengers Ancient
Marvel Comics

The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes... but what if they were something else? Maybe something worse, or maybe just something different?

Over the years, the countless artists and writers at Marvel have tried to answer those questions with varying levels of success, different incarnations of the group ranging from the fairly banal to the downright delusional, whether they are located in another universe entirely, or simply in Marvel's main Earth-616 continuity. Hopefully you're not suffering from superhero fatigue, because there are lot more Avengers than just those portrayed primarily by people called Chris.

Though the Avengers' variations may not be on the same level of wackiness as Marvel's other big team, the X-Men, or the now often often multiverse hopping Spider-Man (see Spider-Verse or the upcoming Spider-Geddon) the Avengers certainly has its fair share of alternate versions, despite lacking the amount of time travel (or vampire related), storylines that Xavier's squad of mutants and the webslinger have enjoyed (or endured, depending on who you ask).

So, if you thought the world of the MCU was absurd, then brace yourself, you're in for one hell of a ride.

10. Venomverse

Avengers Ancient
Marvel Comics

While not explicitly a team of Avengers, this group of symbiote-wielding heroes have a roster that resembles the team well enough, with Captain America and Doctor Strange acting as the leaders.

This version is found in the 2017 series Venomverse, in which Strange recruits characters from across the multiverse, each one having their universe's Venom, with the group facing off against a race known as the Poisons which threaten to wipe out symbiotes, hence the recruitment of this very specific archetype.

Notable members of this incarnation include Old Man Logan, Black Panther, Ant-Man and Venom himself, as well as the aforementioned Cap and the Sorcerer Supreme.

Unfortunately, despite the obvious appeal of a Venomized Avengers-esque team, this group are yet to return to the Marvel multiverse.
