The Ultimate Avengers exist in Marvel's 'Ultimate' universe, and the series is a direct follow up to the Ultimatum storyline that released the month prior. The 'team' are initially formed by Nick Fury and Carol Danvers in order to track down Captain America gone rogue.

This version are actually a black-ops team acting as the secondary group in the universe (the Ultimates being the main one), with the roster featuring the typically less popular/known heroes of War Machine, Hawkeye, Gregory Stark (Tony's brother) and Nerd Hulk (a less powerful clone of the Hulk, with the intelligence of Bruce Banner), just to name a few.

Later in the series, more extreme characters such as the Punisher and Blade temporally join the team, though the roster stays quite similar to how it started. While the aforementioned heroes may not seem the most powerful, they are capable enough to go up against the powerhouses of the Ultimates, making them a force to be reckoned with.
