10 Times DC Comics Lost Their Damn Minds

5. All Star Batman And Robin

Batman WTF
DC Comics/Jim Lee

All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder isn't so much as a car crash of a comic as it is a multi-vehicle pileup, every part of which is on fire.

Set in the same universe as Year One and Dark Knight Returns, All Star is Frank Miller's take on Batman's first encounter and training of Dick Grayson. Despite being written by the man who practically defined the modern day Batman, it reads like it was written by someone who was told about the Dark Knight by a drunken friend, right before they passed out.

The whole series is a jumble of stupidity, gratuitous violence and misogyny. The very first panel is literally reporter Vicki Vale in her underwear, for absolutely no reason.

Moments like Batman and Black Canary having sex next to a pile of burning bodies and the infamous "I'm the godd*mn Batman" line suggest the series is meant as a parody but the whole thing falls under Poe's Law. It goes to such extreme lengths to portray Batman as an over-the top psychopath that it becomes indistinguishable from just a really badly written Batman comic.

It's a shame, because the scene in which Batman and Robin, painted yellow and in a yellow room, beat up Green Lantern is genuinely hilarious.
