12 Greatest Marvel Superheroes Of All Time

9. Black Panther

Marvel Universe Alex Ross
Marvel Comics

Black Panther is another Marvel Character who has been popular since he first appeared back in 1966's Fantastic Four #52. He was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, who incidentally created most of the characters found here.

Black Panther not only introduced a powerful black character to readers, he came with a history, his own lands in Africa, and a powerful message regarding representation in media. While he was an important character, T'Challa, AKA Black Panther, wasn't the most popular character in Marvel's library until a little movie came out in 2018.

Previously, the character made an appearance in Captain America: Civil War, but the Black Panther solo film solidified the character in the global zeitgeist in such a way, few films or characters could possible compare. The movie made more than $1.3 billion at the box office, making it one of the most financially successful films of all time.

Even with a hit film on the books, the character's greatness doesn't stem from his cinematic appeal. For decades, readers have enjoyed and appreciated a character whose power and ability never went to his head. He may be a King, but T'Challa remains grounded and willing to duke it out to save the common man.
