20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Marvel
15. Spider-Man Once Killed Mary-Jane With Radioactive Sperm
The concept of the story was simple: The Dark Knight Returns, but with Spider-Man. The problem with that idea is that a gritty future tale isn't really suited to the family-friendly wall-crawler. Nevertheless, Spider-Man: Reign happened, and followed a retired Spider-Man, who now worked as a florist.
As we slowly uncover what exactly made him hang up the tights, Peter is brought to Mary-Jane’s grave where he reveals the gruesome truth. “I am filled with radioactive blood. And not just blood. Every fluid. Touching me...loving me...loving me killed you!” he screams while facing her dug-up corpse.
In a realistic scenario, Mary-Jane getting cancer is not that far-fetched, but comparing it, as the comic does, to a spider crawling in her body and laying thousands of cancer eggs, just screams as unnecessary. The whole scene is just uncomfortable and grotesque, two feelings that are rarely associated with Spider-Man comics. As such, this moment will forever live on in Marvel infamy.
