5 Awesome Comics You Must Read This Week (7 March)

3. Loki: Agent Of Asgard #2 - Al Ewing And Lee Garbett (Marvel)

Loki Agent Of Asgard Vol 1 2 If you thought the first issue of Loki Agent of Asgard was a fluke, Al Ewing proves why he is the perfect writer for this series with the second issue. It's a seemingly straightforward story of Loki going speed-dating and meeting an old flame whom he's supposed to take in as part of his latest mission from the All-Mother. And then it twists one way. And then it twists another. And by the end you're turning back to the beginning to re-read again how Ewing was able to trick you into thinking this comic was about something else entirely! Lee Garbett's art in this comic is among the best I've seen him produce. Very confident lines despite the challenging imagery in Ewing's script - it can't be easy to make a bowl of punch turn into three disembodied heads while still looking delicious. And I like that there's a reference to Loki's good looks here, saying he had to move apartment buildings because too many people thought he was Harry Styles (he doesn't - he's much better looking than pig-nosed Harry). There's an awesome heist-within-a-heist flashback sequence with Loki and Lorelei and an intriguing new character is introduced who may or may not (but probably will) play a big part in the overall story. Then before we know it, the twist happens, the series looks to go into a whole other direction and we're left waiting for the next issue! Loki Agent of Asgard #2 is a really excellent comic that fans of the character will eat up. Two for two, Mr Ewing and Mr Garbett - keep them coming!
