4. Bloodshot and H.A.R.D. Corps #14 by Christos Gage, Joshua Dysart and Emanuela Lupacchino (Valiant)
I would say out of all the Valiant comics out this week (all 3!), X-O Manowar is the one to pick up but seeing as I already reviewed it separately (http://whatculture.com/comics/x-o-manowar-17-review.php) I'm going for something else which is a close second: Bloodshot and HARD Corps #14. Bloodshot has been captured by Toyo Harada, the shady Professor X leader of the Harbinger Foundation, after the HARD (Harbinger Active Resistance Division) were destroyed. Harada is currently experimenting on Bloodshot to extract the nanites in his system that give him his powers for supposedly altruistic purposes. HARD Corps are being resurrected much to their former leader Major Charlie Palmer's disgust, but he reluctantly agrees to train up this new generation of unwitting soldiers in their newly acquired psiot powers as they set about trying to break Bloodshot out. Christos Gage and Harbinger writer Joshua Dysart put together a compelling issue for the new HARD Corps who're all sympathetic characters being used by organisations with questionable goals. It's an exciting setup as the super-powered Bloodshot is basically non-powered here and our heroes are pretty much all amateurs at what they've been designed to do and are going up against the most powerful psiot in the world, Toyo Harada. The issue builds nicely and ends with a literal bang that leaves readers hankering for more. An excellent start to this new story arc - Bloodshot and HARD Corps #14 is a dark and exciting read.
