5 Awesome Comics You Must Read This Week (18 September)

5. Kings Watch #1 by Jeff Parker and Marc Laming (Dynamite)

Ok, technically this one came out last week but I missed it and picked it up this week instead - and it's great! Our first team-up comic of the week sees Flash Gordon, The Phantom, and Mandrake the Magician join forces to fight a mysterious and deadly threat. Honestly, what a great line-up! The brilliant Jeff Parker takes a break from writing Batman '66 and Adventures of Superman to pen this fun new series and is joined by relative newcomer, artist Marc Laming, who assists with some tremendous art. Strange lights begin appearing in the sky as creepy dinosaur monsters roam the African jungles - luckily the Phantom is around to save unassuming and vulnerable tourists! Meanwhile Flash (AH-AAAAAH!) tests out a new kind of aircraft in space and fearlessly heads towards the source of the strange lights which appears to be some sort of anomaly linked by magic - enter Mandrake the Magician! The series looks like it's going to be very enjoyable and, hey, how often do you see this bunch together anyway? They're not exactly the Avengers! Kings Watch #1 is a great start to a promising new series that's well worth a look this week especially if, like me, you missed it in the shuffle last week.
