5 Marvel Comics Fashion Disasters Of The 1970s!

From the nostalgically funky to the downright hideous.

Marvel Legacy 1970s Handbook Nostalgia is a funny thing. Movies like American Hustle would have you believe the decade was a non-stop party, with beauties like Amy Adams making a convincing argument for the return of the era's most daring fashion statement €” a v-neck collar that plunged down past the navel. But the glamorous stars of American Hustle had the top stylists in Hollywood on hand to ensure their unwise 70s fashion choices were on the "pretty" side of "ugly-pretty" ... while the superheroes of the era were not so fortunate. With indifferent costume design taking its cues from one of the ugliest fashion decades in American history, Marvel heroes of the 1970s were frequently forced to wear some genuinely awful outfits. And the worst of them all sported the go-to favorite for Marvel's 1970s costume designers €” the plunging v-neck! The whole darn decade was packed full of questionable costume choices, so there are a couple ground rules to help narrow this list down to five select fashion disasters -- only heroes are eligible, and they must have made their first appearance in the 1970s. Unwise color choices, heavy metal accessories, and sweeping upturned collars all help secure consideration for this list, but the nailer is that aforementioned, plunging v-neck collar! It might work for Amy Adams, but for these heroes ... not so much! From nostalgically funky to downright hideous, here are the 5 Marvel Comics Fashion Disasters of the 1970s!
