1. Sex Criminals #4 by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky (Image)
It's a new issue of Sex Criminals - that's all you need to know. Instant purchase! The already legendary summary intro is improved in this issue with Fraction writing it in a style I have no vocabulary to describe except to say that it's funny, really, really funny, and had me laughing before the comic even started. Sample: "Johann, he take a Suuz to THE CUMWORLD so she can see his own bonor factories. They make many sex diddlins then play with them didloes. Chipper, he draws him a sleepings bag looking like vageeno! HA HA CHIPPER" Not a single typo by the way. So the first three issues have basically been character pieces, with the audience getting to know Suze and Jon, their lives and how they became a couple - the sex part of the title; this issue brings the criminal element in as we catch up with the two robbing the big bank before encountering a trio of bright white clothed people who can also move about in The Quiet but are menacing. Before the big score though we get to see Jon and Suze figure out how to rob places while in The Quiet as they mess around with Cumworld, the sex store with the amazing porn titles (The Gang Bangover, Skyballs). Chip Zdarsky's art is just unreal. Facial expressions, layouts, the glowy scenes in The Quiet, Suze in a modified Hamburglar outfit, the David Bowie-esque female villain - this comic isn't just one of the funniest and most entertaining titles out there, it's also one of the best looking. Fraction flawlessly juggles the present story with the recent past with digressions on the villains' (or are they?) backgrounds AND keeps the jokes coming thick and fast, that's truly amazing to read. We're all caught up in the present by the end of the issue and on to exciting new possibilities in the next. There are too many delightful little moments in the panels to mention here which you should discover for yourselves. Amazing original story, brilliant writing, gorgeous art: Sex Criminals #4 - it's still the best! * Those are my picks for the best comics of the week. What were your favourites this week?
